Your neighbourhood has a story. Wanna write it for Clooz?

Clooz has a cool story editor that makes it really easy to draft games in any city. We'll help you along the way, but the storytelling is yours!

Tell us your idea

Give it a try! We'll help when it gets tough.

A park in three seasons: snow in winter, the Clooz detective writing on a bench in spring with her books and magnifying glass beside her, and red and orange trees by a pond in autumn

Nobody knows your streets like you do

OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. But you get our point! Maybe you know which building used to be a cinema, which courtyard everyone walks straight past, and who the street is really named after. Every guidebook will list the famous sights, but how about you tell a story that goes a little off the beaten path?

From an idea to a walk in the app

You don't need to be a writer or a game designer, but a little creativity is required! Whether you find a hook in your neighbourhood's history or want to build something unique is up to you.

  1. 1

    Apply to become a creator

We'll get in touch to invite you to the editor and start mapping landmarks with you. It's still quite new, so expect a few bumps along the way! At least you get to shape the editor with us.

  2. 2

    Start building!

You can start from your city's map or from the text editor, whatever feels most comfortable for your working style.

  3. 3

Polish directions and clues as you test-walk

A lot of the work happens outside.

  4. 4

Get in touch again when you're close to finished

You're one of the first people to use the editor, so we go through every story with you before it goes live. It helps us make sure the tools work, and gives you a little extra confidence.

  5. 5

    Press publish!

Your story goes live in the Clooz app on iPhone and Android, and people start walking it.

Easier than it looks

Everything happens in your web browser. There's nothing to install and no commitment when you start.

  • A story open in the Clooz editor: its pages in order, with a landmark from the catalog and a clue, and the story's title and summary beside them Enlarge

    You're the writer!

The secret is keeping your story simple enough to enjoy on a walk outside.

  • The map view of a Helsinki story in the Clooz editor, its route drawn as a dotted line between numbered landmarks and clues Enlarge

    Draw your route

Drop your stops on the map and watch the route take shape.

  • A clue open in the Clooz editor, set up as Pick the right picture, with its question and the answer pictures Enlarge

    Hide a clue

Players might have to find a word on a sign, tap the right picture, put events in order or guess a number to progress in the story.

  • The landmark catalog in the Clooz editor, Helsinki's landmarks laid out as cards with a photo, a description and a category Enlarge

    Manage landmarks

Keep your city's places in one catalog, each with a photo and a few lines of history, ready to add to any story.

We take care of the rest

  • The voice

You write the text, and we add the voiceover when your story is ready to publish.

  • The landmarks

We can produce a set of landmarks in your city before you start writing! You're welcome to suggest and create more as you go.

  • The publishing

Your story goes into the app on iPhone and Android, and gets its own story page on this site.

What's in it for you

  • Your name on the story

Credit is due where credit is due! You get to brag about having built a game for all Clooz users.

  • A share when stories are paid

Clooz is free for now, but if we start charging for stories, the people who wrote and maintain them will get a share. We'll discuss this when the time comes.

  • A say in the development of our editing tools

Your feedback shapes how they work for everyone after you!
